Greetings,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the 11th annual Merrickville Car Show “Cruise & Shop”

Sunday, July 10th, 2011.

Over the years the Merrickville Car Show has grown to become one of the largest shows of its kind in Eastern Ontario. Last years show attracted over 1000 registered cars, trucks, and hot rods and was attended by thousands of car enthusiasts. This years show promises to be even bigger and better with live entertainment by the Mick Armitage Band, more quality vendors and exhibits, and a few surprises that will be announced soon. If you need a break from the show activities the historic Village of Merrickville - located on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Rideau Canal – offers unique shops, artist galleries, restaurants and other attractions that are sure to please the whole family.

We look forward to seeing you at this years family-friendly Merrickville Car Show “Cruise & Shop.

My Sunny Day Self-Portrait Project

November 20, 2010 at 6:18 PM | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Darrell’s entry about his self-portrait project makes me think of my own self-portrait project.  I don’t have a studio or lights so I did mine outside, in the fall sunshine.  First, I set up my tripod and I took three pictures of myself.

Then I merged them in Photoshop using layers:  Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil!

Here’s how I did it:

First, I opened the three images in Photoshop and copied them as layers into one .psd file.  So, myself on the left was the background layer, myself on the right was Layer 1, and myself in the middle was Layer 2.  Then, I created a mask on Layers 1 and 2 and filled them with black.  Now, only the background showed through.  Then, I selected the Brush tool and, with a medium-size diameter and white paint, highlighted each layer and painted my two selves back into the picture.

I had so much fun, I did it again!

When you’ve got a camera and Photoshop, there’s no excuse for being bored!

A wet dreary afternoon, I set up my studio strobes and parked myself in the lights.

Photographers in the West End Studio Tour

The West End Studio Tour takes place on two weekends in September (Sept 18-19 and Sept 25-26), 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. This year is the first year in their fifteen year history that photographers have been included among the exhibiting artists. Myself and Paul Wing are the two photographers included in this year’s tour.

Although I’ve become recognized at the Camera Club of Ottawa for my kite aerial photography, I will be exhibiting a cross-section of various types of photography ranging from landscapes to abstracts and from aerial vistas to macro close-ups much nearer to the ground. In addition, I selectively use post-processing techniques to give a painterly feel to a number of my images.

More information about the West End Studio Tour (W.E.S.T.) can be found at westendstudiotour.ca. Maps for the tour can be picked up at any of the artist locations.
