Greetings,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the 11th annual Merrickville Car Show “Cruise & Shop”

Sunday, July 10th, 2011.

Over the years the Merrickville Car Show has grown to become one of the largest shows of its kind in Eastern Ontario. Last years show attracted over 1000 registered cars, trucks, and hot rods and was attended by thousands of car enthusiasts. This years show promises to be even bigger and better with live entertainment by the Mick Armitage Band, more quality vendors and exhibits, and a few surprises that will be announced soon. If you need a break from the show activities the historic Village of Merrickville - located on the UNESCO World Heritage Site Rideau Canal – offers unique shops, artist galleries, restaurants and other attractions that are sure to please the whole family.

We look forward to seeing you at this years family-friendly Merrickville Car Show “Cruise & Shop.

Regards,

Stan Metcalfe holding the trophy he commissioned for best Colour Print in the Camera Club of Ottawa.  Stan joined the CCO in 1962, and was a Life Member

In Spring 1970 I met a person that was an evangelist for the cause of the Camera Club of Ottawa. Today my longtime friend, and friend of a lot of local photographers,  Stan Metcalfe passed away.

I will miss you my friend, may you find only Leicas and Linhofs and and endless supply of film. Stan we shall never see another like you.

Fourth Avenue Baptist Church (seats 500) was overflowing with family and friends to see Stan off. His twinkle of his eyes forever embedded in our hearts. Stan had no pretense, he judged no one. He treated all with dignity and respect. Some …came for just the visitation, others for the service but at the end of the day I estimate 600 attended to say farewell. Others who couldn’t attend said their private farewell.

Stan, farewell my friend… 40 years is a long time, but you have been and always shall be my friend.

METCALFE, Stanley Gardner
June 15, 1924 – August 5, 2010

Peacefully in hospital, surrounded by family and friends. Dearly loved husband of Laura Ann (Hammond). Caring and affectionate father of Derek (Micheline), Janet and Jennifer. Stan was overjoyed and keenly interested in his grandchildren: Lauren, Brayden, Scott, Abbie, Dereline, Gracie, Sam, Sophie and Daniel.

A graduate of New York Institute of Photography, this was his passion, both as a career and a hobby. He was the first photographer for the National Research Council and taught for many years with the Ottawa Board of Education.

A lifelong resident of Ottawa, he was the son of Stanley Gardner Metcalfe, Q.C., and Helena Janet McNaughton. He is also predeceased by his brother, Stuart.

Stan was a philanthropist with his time and gave prodigiously as a leader in Scouting; Lt. Comm. of the Ottawa Power Squadron; founding President of the Hammond Organ Society; Past President and Life Member of the Camera Club of Ottawa; founding member of the Leica Historical Society of Canada; founding member of the XM49ers; Clerk of Fourth Avenue Baptist Church for 27 years. He gave compassionate care to many people in need.

He valued all of his friends including his angels and was always the appreciative recipient of their kindness and generosity. We will miss his “joie de vivre” and consistent, wise and disarming demeanor.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Fourth Avenue Baptist Church, 109A Fourth Avenue (at Bank) on Friday, August 13th beginning with visitation at 11:00 am followed by a service of remembrance in the sanctuary at 1:30 pm. Memorial donations in Stan’s name may be made to Fourth Avenue Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at http://www.legacy.com/Link.asp?I=LS000144523503X .
