3 Trees in Winter Fog

This image was taken on the road going from Merickville to Jasper, which is all near Smith Falls. Fog on winter snow provides a very nice soft light and the whiteness helps to really isolate the subjects.
I wanted a very soft image with low contrast and yet still being able to see all the branches of the foreground trees.
3 Trees in Winter Fog
This image was created by blending to Photoshop layers together, one were the clarify slider in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) was set low to soften background lines and the other where the clarify setting was set higher to increase contrast in the 3 foreground trees. A mask was created to blend the 2 images together.
A quick method of coping a channel onto itself made it easy to create the fine lines needed for the tree mask.
See article article Winter Fog – Great Photography Weather for a more detailed explanation and photos of this process.
